The Short Answer
Our top pick is Citadines Trafalgar Square London, an aparthotel on Northumberland Avenue just off Trafalgar Square. Its 70-square-meter 2-Bedroom Apartment takes up to six, so a family of five gets two bedrooms and a kitchen, a short walk from the National Gallery and the river.
- Traveling with a baby: The Bloomsbury Hotel's Family Room has two double beds and takes two adults and three children, but the third child must be under 2.
- Easy airport transfers: Hilton London Metropole, near Paddington, has a Two Queen Beds Family Room with Sofabed that sleeps five.
- On a budget: Zedwell Piccadilly Circus has a six-person Cocoon room with its own bathroom, and Generator London has private six-bed rooms near King's Cross.
Not every Citadines in London takes five: the Holborn, South Kensington and Barbican branches stop at four. Our hotel chains guide covers which branches of each brand do.

What to Check Before You Book
- Who counts as the fifth guest. The Bloomsbury's five is two adults and three children with the youngest under 2, so it doesn't work with three older kids.
- Extra beds. Booking.com's listing for the Hilton London Metropole says cribs and extra beds aren't available, so the sofa bed is the fifth bed.
- Windows. Zedwell's Cocoon rooms are windowless by design and have no TVs.
- Who the suite is for. The Marylebone's Two Bedroom Suite takes four adults and one child, and the fifth guest's roll-away, for a child under 15, costs extra. Our guide to what "sleeps 5" means covers the other common catches.
Getting to Central London from Heathrow
- Heathrow Express: about 15 minutes from Heathrow to London Paddington, with trains every 15 minutes. The Hilton London Metropole is close to Paddington.
- By car or taxi: about 40 to 75 minutes from Heathrow to Trafalgar Square, Bloomsbury or Piccadilly, depending on traffic.
- Going on to Paris: Eurostar trains leave from St Pancras International, next to King's Cross and close to Generator London. See our Paris guide for rooms for five there.
- With five and luggage: book a larger car or a van in advance, since a standard car may not fit everyone.
